CHICAGO, November 30, 2017 – Chicago-born actor and comedian Joe Nunez will serve as the Grand Marshal of TBOX®, Chicago’s legendary Twelve Bars of Xmas pub crawl on Saturday, December 9.
Nunez, who currently stars as the voice of Armando, the overwhelmed Chief of Castle in Disney’s “Elena of Avalor,” will lead the band of holiday attired revelers as they seek to achieve the title of “Most People on a Pub Crawl” from the Guinness Book of World Records. With nearly 40 taverns and restaurants near Wrigley Field looking to welcome revelers to their establishments, TBOX, is looking to have more than 5,000 participants fulfill the requirements set by Guinness, according to founder Christopher Festa.
“Along with our theme of “Christmas Vacation,” we anticipate that the addition of Joe as our Grand Marshal and chief merrymaker for the 22nd annual TBOX will make this one of our most fun and festive,” Festa stated.
Perhaps best known for his reoccurring role as Manche Sanchez on the hit series “Prison Break,” among Nunez’s film credits are “Superbad,” “40 Year Old Virgin,” “The Pursuit of Happyness,” “Bridesmaids” and “Rango.”
How did it all start? Back in 1996, Festa realized he was tired of cleaning his apartment after his house parties. Still wanting plan fun events for his friends, he seized on the idea of a pub crawl – and in December 1996, about 50 of his friends and Accenture co-workers attended the very first TBOX. No one knew what it would someday become. In fact, only three people showed up at the very first bar. TBOX grew steadily until reaching nearly 2,000 people in 2002, after which Festa turned his idea into a business, Festa Parties, now known as TBOX Bar Crawls, which pioneered the pub crawling industry both in Chicago and nationwide.
Often imitated but never duplicated, Festa’s events feature unique, quirky, personal touches, like cereal shots in the street and in bars, participants downing entire boxes of Froot Loops® and Lucky Charms for their breakfast sugar rush, to the costumes, thousands of flirty stickers for
crawlers to collect, picture frames, opening and closing ceremonies, and first time crawlers officially “losing their TBOX Virginity” it’s something partygoers really need to experience firsthand!
In addition to a day of merriment for revelers and big day of business for local taverns such as Cubby Bear, Murphy’s Bleachers, Deuce’s, Sluggers, Irish Oak, Casey Moran’s, and many more, TBOX and Owner Chris Festa have helped the community by donating more than $250,000 to local charities from TBOX Proceeds. This year, TBOX will again be donating to local food bank, Lakeview Pantry. Tickets are available now starting at $20 at www.tbox.org. Visit or follow us at Web: www.tbox.org @TBOXBarCrawls FB/IG/TW
